Shuzo Takiguchi
Today Marcel Duchamp is recognized as the grandfather of contemporary art, with so much of his work coming to give birth to new movements from neodadaism to pop art, kinetic art, minimal art and conceptual art. Here is now appraised as one of the most important artists in the history of 20th century art. But before he even received this acclaim Shuzo Takiguchi held a strong interest in Duchamp’s work from the 1930s onwards and while pursuing an active career as an art critic he engaged in the development of various works across different media, with particular critical though turning towards the role of the object. This exhibition brings together the work of these two masters side and by side and places a renewed spotlight upon the influence of Duchamp upon Takiguchi.
