Yoko Kawamoto
Yoko Kawamoto paints landscapes overlooked by most people, such as empty lots and mountain backwoods where cars have been abandoned. Perhaps due to their blue skies and exterior light, these scenes punctuated by discarded objects leave impressions of brightness rather than negativity. Kawamoto paints all of her landscapes from photographs taken in Japan’s rural areas and the surroundings of her own home.

Cars— a frequent subject of music, movies, and art— have long been symbols of wealth and freedom. An indispensible part of our lives, cars continue stir our imaginations. What have they become in our lives and culture today? Looking at these vehicles from new angles, this exhibition is for anyone who thinks about or has an interest in cars.
