Sam Stocker
Tokyo-based British artist Sam Stocker presents his new exhibition as an improvisational research into vernacularities of Jinbocho - an old town where the gallery building Bigakko is located - based on inspiration from a manuscript “Liber Novus (The Red Book)” by Swiss psychiatrist Carl Gustav Jung. The exhibition is developed as a work-in-progress project composed of three phases - an installation that directly responds to the exhibition space and surroundings, research into local history as the genesis of modern individual/self in Japan, and a performance event as integrating the entire processes.
