Kumi Machida “Painting, Drawing, Print”

Nishimura Gallery
Finished

Artists

Kumi Machida
Kumi Machida’s work was included in the 2006 exhibition “No Border” at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo, and appeared on the cover of Kaori Fujino’s 2013 Akutagawa Prize-winning novel “Tsume to Me” (Nail and Eye). Machida’s paintings and illustrations feature stark and minimalistic lines and bold uses of white space on Japanese paper. These lines, which appear to be single strokes of ink, are in fact numerous thin lines. This exhibition traces the transformation of Machida’s style up through new paintings and drawings, as well as prints from 2014.
