Artists

Sonoyo Nayuki
Lacquer is made from tapped tree sap that has been dried and solidified through exposure to air. Since ancient times the people of Asia have used lacquer to paint objects used in daily life and have applied it to furnishings, decorations, and holy sites. The artist Sonoyo Nayuki paints lacquer onto materials she finds beautiful, creating and taking part in new relationships between the lacquer and these materials.
