Documentary Film Screening “Japan Rediscovered” - Tokushima, Kochi

Intermediatheque
Finished
Tokushima and Kochi Prefectures, which occupy the southern part of Shikoku, should have been West Japan’s gateway to the Pacific. However, isolated by the mountain ranges covering the territory, both prefectures were neglected from the postwar transportation system and industrial planning projects. This screening offers an opportunity to compare how old habits and lifestyles, as well as traditional economy in both prefectures, have overcome this difficult postwar era. The present films, which record people and their lifestyle in areas then thought to beremote, also have high ethnographical value.
