This exhibition – the first from the collection of the museum after being renamed from Seiji Togo Memorial Sompo Japan Museum of Art on September 1 – consists of two sections commemorating the renaming. The first section entitled ‘Seiji Togo and “Surrealistic Stroll”’ examines Togo’s development of “Surrealistic Stroll” in a rare style over several years following his studies in France. This work that captivates all generations, including those not familiar with Togo, has been selected for the museum’s new logo. This exhibition showcases around 40 works ranging from Togo’s early works up to his renowned work “Nostalgia” (1959), as well as approx. 30 works of his contemporaries. The second section “Sompo Japan Nipponkoa Collection” accompanies with over 20 of the major works entrusted from Sompo Japan Nipponkoa.
