Visions of Proximity

SCAI The Bathhouse
Finished

Artists

He Xiangyu, Haroon Mirza, Daisuke Ohba, Nobuko Tsuchiya
Introducing new works by four contemporary artists of Asian origin, this exhibition explores synesthetic perceptions, and the union of the senses, linked through the passage of time. The reflective pearl paint of Daisuke Ohba’s “Log” series crisscrosses the eye through a grid like structure playing upon the viewers’ visual senses and here in a selection of new work reveals the simultaneous hush and fear of the forests. Haroon Mirza transforms light into sound, and here using a solar panel as his canvas a layer of LEDs respond to the fluctuations in the surrounding light levels, as well as the shadows of the viewers themselves. He Xiangyu, works across the range of large scale projects to highly personal works of the body and here presents “Tears”, collecting his uncontrollable emotions upon watercolor paper. Finally Nobuko Tsuchiya presents new sculpture of poetic delicacy, combining a tension and discord of materials with a humor which provokes the imagination. This exhibition expands upon the five senses and the memory of space in the second part of celebrations for the 25th anniversary of Scai the Bathhouse.
