Gaining critical acclaim with his 1974 “Pencil” series and going on to win an award as part of the Tokyo International Print Biennale at the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, Hideki Kimura is one of the leading printmakers of Japan, while at the same time he also works with painting upon media such as glass and canvas. In this exhibition he presents his latest work in the ongoing series “Charcoal”, created in a process of ink jet printing and silk screen printing onto washi paper, then furthermore burning into the paper with a soldering iron to create a 3D texture, playing between reality and image, front and back, flat and sculptural.
