Focusing on contemporary tea utensils, the third annual Contemporary Chanoyu Awards presents winning submissions to the open-call contest, with some of the selected artists featured in overseas exhibitions. This year’s panel of judges included the artistic unit Ippin Saraya, tea masters, Ryotaro Matsumura, Hpgrp Gallery director Kentaro Tostuka, Gallery Out of Place Tokio director Kazushige Suzuki, and Shibuya HIkarie staff. In addition to considering the history of the tea ceremony and the usability of the works, the judges chose them for their relevance to the contemporary art world.
