Documentary Film Screening “Japan Rediscovered: Hyogo Prefecture”

Intermediatheque
Finished
As in other regions of Japan, the concepts of sanyo and san’in regions (literally, “south/north of the mountains”) are most pertinent when considering the modernization of Hyogo Prefecture. After the war, as the Sanyo region was developing chaotically around Kobe port, the San’in region enclosed by mountains managed to preserve traditional crafts such as kiryu willow handicraft. The present screening, while reconsidering this fundamental difference, will also focus on sake brewing, which was still at the time a pre-modern industry.
