The Prayer of Beppin— Horyuji Kondo Mural Painting

The University Art Museum - Tokyo University of the Arts
Finished
Horyuji Temple and Tokyo University of the Arts share a long history. In the Meiji period, the university helped the temple preserve its cultural assets for future generations through activities including reproductions of the murals of its Kondo building. These reproductions were lost in a fire in 1949, but now with the help of cutting-edge digital technology, photographs and collotype prints of the murals before their destruction, and artists’ replicas made with Tokyo University of the Arts’ patented replica technology, new reproductions of the murals will be created for display along with related images shown using the latest 8K super-high vision projector. Combining the traditional with the contemporary, this event made possible by the research of Tokyo University of the Arts reaches heights of innovation and culture not possible through science alone.
