Yoichi Nagano
As the 36th series of “The Second Stage at GG” the Guardian Garden presents the food photography of Yoichi Nagano. Having joined early open exhibitions at GG from the late 90’s including the “Human Town Project Part 2” in 1998 with a collection of work documenting teenage youths in Okinawa and Amami islands, he has gone on to work across numerous fields including magazine publications, advertising and film. Until recently Nagano had no specific awareness towards food photography in his own work, but on being commissioned to create images for a food publication he has come to reconsider the very possibilities of this genre. In approaching food photography Nagano attempts to capture a “portrait” of cuisine, distilling a particular light and essence which may bring to mind the everyday lives of those who create such appetizing dishes.
