Sho Yoshihama
The young artist Sho Yoshihama, an Okinawa native, pursues experimental expressions in his drawings, photographs, installations, live performances, and other works, which feature “sound” as a common theme. His art emphasizes randomness and uncertainty. The concept behind his group performance “Bion Orchestra,” which took the form of a live concert and workshop, was making listeners aware of the small sounds that often go overlooked in everyday life. He creates music from sounds familiar to everyone from a young age, such as the hitting of objects with tree branches and the rustling of plastic bags. For this exhibition, Yoshihama has created a new work, in which he asked people to carry around special rocks for a week and then dispose of them. By having people share their lives with the rocks and then let go of them, he aims to record the subtle changes in everyday emotions caused by sentimentality.
