This retrospective presents work selected from the oeuvre of Taeko Miura (art name Taeko Inoue), upon the occasion of her retirement after more than twenty years of teaching Japanese painting at Musashino Art University. Since 1967, while still a student at Tokyo University of the Arts, Miura has actively participated in the restoration of the wall murals in the Main Hall (Kondo) of Horyuji Temple and being deeply involved since then in research on ancient art, she has frequently been joined in restoration projects at the request of the Japanese government’s Agency for Cultural Affairs. At the same time, she has produced numerous magnificent works incorporating her insights from the study of the classics. This exhibition displays Miura’s own selection of her works, including copies of the classics, to provide a retrospective of her life in art.
