Izu Photo Museum
Finished

Artists

Masanao Abe, Kinbe Kusakabe, Herbert George Ponting et al.
Mt. Fuji, with its beautifully symmetrical ridge lines, has been an enthralling subject since the invention of the photographic process. This exhibition seeks after the genealogy of images of Fuji through a range of themes, including tourism, mountain climbing, the imperial family, expositions, and propaganda. In addition, this exhibition introduces the work of the physicist Masanao Abe (1891-1966), who established the Abe Cloud and Air Current Research Laboratory, in Gotemba, Shizuoka from which to observe the clouds over Mt. Fuji and through which he developed unique photographic techniques.
