Tetsumi Kudo
Tetsumi Kudo (1935-1990) began creating art as a student at Tokyo University of the Arts and quickly drew attention as one of the major figures of the anti-art movement. He moved to Paris in 1962 and worked mainly in Europe through the mid-1980s. In Japan he is strongly associated with anti-art, but in fact this activity dominated only a few years early in his career. After basing himself in Paris, he notably created pieces with critical perspectives on civilization and society. This exhibition is a comprehensive introduction to Kudo’s activities. In addition to works being shown in Japan for the first time, it presents more than 200 documents and works of art, including photographs and footage of performances Kudo participated in. It is the first major Kudo exhibition in Japan in 20 years and the first in Tokyo.
