Shinichi Hara
Born in 1964 in Ibaraki prefecture and going on to study sculpture at Tokyo University of the Arts, Shinichi Hara is an artist who principally works in white marble. With his career taking a particularly fruitful turn since his receipt of the Kirin Art Award in 1999, going on to feature in “Roppongi Crossing” in 2007 and reaching wide acclaim through impressive large scale sculpture works, he has continued to move from strength to strength and here marks his first solo exhibition at Yamamoto Gendai. Drawing inspiration from painter Ryusei Kishida, Hara creates works which at first seem beautiful plane’s of white, but upon closer observation reveal hands, ears, teeth and hair, quietly stepping into another world.
