Kazumi Yoshimine
Starting with actual landscapes and interior scenes, Kazumi Yoshimine reduces the forms of these subjects in her paintings, moving into realms of abstraction configured with flat color planes. Shifting between the abstract and the figurative, her work explores the meaning of a pre-verbal, fundamental kind of “seeing.” These landscapes and interiors taken to the extremes of abstraction also portray a temporality only possible in painting, as opposed to photography, video, or other media. It is impossible to conclude whether this vague type of time stops or persists, inviting the viewer into diverse worlds of imagination and distant memory.
