Maiko Haruki
As suggested by the title “A Certain Composition of the Eyes,” Maiko Haruki’s new photography series on taxidermy originates from considerations of the act of “seeing.” It continues in the theme of her 2011 work “View For a Moment.” Through the medium of photography Haruki dissects her subjects and reconstructs them from multiple perspectives on the same plane, in the same vein as Paul Cezanne and Pablo Picasso’s Cubism. She composes photographs of non-existent places by photographing single subjects from several angles and developing the film outside of its original panel layout.
