Miyuki Kaneko
The works of Miyuki Kaneko, who studied the fundamentals of ceramics in London, are made with string and manual rather than electric potter’s wheels. This is a time-consuming process, but it allows her to achieve the beautiful forms she seeks. Depending on the conditions of the clay and the firing environment, her ceramics sometimes show faint impressions where the string was pulled cleanly across the clay’s smooth surface. These works on display and for sale come mostly from the artist’s studio in Tsukuba and express her practice and vision of a satisfying, unhurried life that begins with ceramics.
