Since 2008 The Artcomplex Center of Tokyo has hosted ArtLabo X, an event combining the open-call exhibitions Artcompe X and C/Laboratory (formerly giant mango). Act 1, a gallery space on the center’s second floor, presents the preliminary rounds of the contest five times a year on even-numbered months. Three to five nominated artists from each show are featured at a final gallery-spanning exhibition in December, when grand prize winners are chosen.
