European Fashions

Bunka Gakuen Costume Museum
Finished
Presenting some 200 years of European women’s fashion from the colorful dresses of the 18th century to the diverse styles of the 20th. Fashion was only accessible to a select group of women during the Rococo era of the 18th century, but by the 20th— when Europe was no longer the world’s only trendsetter— it had become the domain of the masses. Caught up in this narrative are transformations in societal structure, the development of industry, and changes in women’s mindsets. This exhibition takes a look back at women’s fashions of several periods while also displaying clothing worn by children and men in each era.
