11th “1_Wall” Photography Exhibition
This event has ended.
After a vigorous process of portfolio reviews and individual interviews, six finalists have been chosen for this year’s 1_Wall photography exhibition. Each finalist has been given a single wall to exhibit his or her works in this group show, and the Grand Prix winner will present works in a solo exhibit in one year’s time. Come see these artists’ diverse photographic expressions.
Hiroki Urabe focuses on the fundamental weakness and tremulousness of people and things. Mizue Kitada’s portraits of naked women express her desire to reach the flesh and blood beneath their clothes and makeup. Yui Takahashi’s mechanically shot self-portraits maintain the same composition and lighting effects, showing her in front of closets in different homes wearing clothing left to her by her deceased mother and grandmother. Soshi Tanaka attempts to remove all artist intervention and individuality from his works, which he shoots in the dark using a self-timer so that only the data that passes through the camera is exposed. Focusing on the 2D aspects of photography, Takamitsu Nii composes frames from objects in his own room to reassess two-dimensional space. Finally, Shiho Yoshida explores the fragments of memory and the materialization of images by reproducing photographs from the internet and then taking pictures of these new works.
