The Yoshino Gypsum Art Foundation has been providing assistance for young artists to work overseas since 2008. For the first time this year, it presents “Memories of Image/Images of Memory,” an exhibition featuring young artists chosen by former participants in the program.
Even without direct experience, an inextinguishable interest in others leads us to try to discover histories in everything from objects to places. While memories exist as fixed figures in our minds, their images are unstable and changeable. A compulsion to understand times accumulated within objects gives shape to elusive memories. This range of artwork including paintings, sculptures, images, and installations by 16 artists evokes the many forms of memory.
