Tomotaka Yasui “Still Ambience/Silence”

Artists

Tomotaka Yasui
Presenting the fifth exhibition in the Mori Art Museum’s series introducing new expressions in contemporary sculpture. Tomotaka Yasui creates mainly human forms using traditional dry lacquer and mother-of-pearl techniques. His sculptures express “the ambiences surrounding people who remain still in our ever-rapidly changing society.” These figures have been lacquer-glazed and dried with cloths numerous times, melding traditional arts with a contemporary style. With dazzling clothing dusted with mother-of-pearl and mysterious precious-stone pupils, these sculptures invite viewers into poetic realms. Human and animal sculptures, including new works, are on display.
