Tracing gently sloping black lines of Kumi Machida’s works leads the eye to expansive, macrocosmic forms that contrast beautifully with microscopically detailed sections. At first glance, these lines seem casually drawn, but are in fact carefully composed of numerous fine lines painstakingly drawn in a repetitive process reminiscent of Rembrandt’s classical copperplate etching techniques. These new prints of Machida’s can be called the crystallizations of time and passion in a gorgeous expression of artistic skill.
