Coolness: Ko-Imari Ware with Water Designs

Toguri Museum of Art
Finished
Suitable for the scorching summer, this exhibition shows designs of water from various points of view. Imari ware, Japan’s first porcelain manufactured since the early 17th century in Hizen Province, skillfully depicts designs of waterfalls, waves, rainfall, and snow. Representations of water in different shades of blue are very refreshing, and small Imari cups and jugs were used to quench people’s thirst. These Imari ware designs reflecting the coolness of water help us feel refreshed during the hot summertime.
