As the seventh installment of its summer exhibition series, the Mitsui Memorial Museum presents “Noh Masks and Costumes: See/Know/Compare”. Noh drama, a traditional Japanese art, is at first glance often perceived as inscrutable by many Japanese. The aim of this exhibit is make the world of Noh, a culmination of Japanese aesthetics, more understandable with masks and costumes from the museum’s collection, giving viewers a sense of the many aspects of this performance art through its patterns and forms. On the 7th floor there will also be a special display, “Kabuki Costumes from the Mitsukoshi and Isetan Collections― Renowned Actors in Famous Scenes”, which features dazzling costumes with proud lineages actually worn by popular Kabuki actors, as well as panels of stage photos of these actors.
