Katsumi Omori
“Sounds and Things” is made up of a series of 25 photographs shot between 2012-2013, with a particular consciousness towards that which can not be caught within photography. In his recent work Katsumi Omori has pursued the particular conjunction of time and place as represented by works such as “Stars and Stripes”, produced during a trip to New York coinciding with Obama’s inauguration ceremony and “Everything Happens for the First Time” photographed on the occasion of the Great East Japan Earthquake. Yet the work featured in this exhibition shows a certain departure from this in its more flexible shift between these axis of time and place. Developed after the completion of “Everything Happens for the First Time” these photographs depict people, interior and landscape scenes and everyday objects as encountered through his travels. While the images appear as if random, each seem to set off in motion its own narrative, connecting title, place and time of production, in a particular relationship offered up by the artist.

This exhibition is held in association with the Yebisu International Festival for Art & Alternative Visions “True Colors”
