From its previous image of being a closed, rather elitist space, the suburbs are now being reimagined into a space of utopian vision. The case of Toride is representative of the Japanese suburbs where the number of disused houses is ever increasing, quietly waiting for new inhabitants. “Post Suburbia” is a project designed to explore “living” in the suburbs, launching an open call to artists and creators to submit plans to expand upon the potential of the suburban living space in a form of social experiment, chasing the ideal of post-suburbia from numerous creative and professional perspectives. This symposium brings together experts in the urban development and socially engaged art scenes to debate the future imagination of our suburban landscapes and our ways of inhabiting these.
