The printer Gerhard Steidl has been embraced by the geniuses of many fields, including the Nobel Prize-winning novelist Gunter Grass, the American photography master Robert Frank, and the charismatic Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld. Steidl creates the most beautiful books in the world, flying around the globe to select works and exchange opinions with artists, taking care in everything from the sizes and layouts of the books to the quality of their paper and the smell of their ink. This long-awaited documentary pursues the secrets of Steidl’s publishing company.
