Taro Okamoto Museum of Art, Kawasaki
Finished

Artists

Shinji Ohmaki, Satoru Tamura, Hishashi Tenmyouya, Takehito Fujii, Yukihiro Yamagami

The TARO Award (the Taro Okamoto Award for Contemporary Art) was created to cite artists who, succeeding the spirit of Taro Okamoto, would pose a critical message to the present time from their free viewpoints and ideas. Many artists, who would play an active role both in and outside of Japan, have emerged from the recipients of the TARO Award which has been held 17 times in the past.

The Taro Okamoto Museum of Art, Kawasaki annually held the TARO Award exhibition (the exhibition of the Taro Okamoto Award for Contemporary Art) since the 4th TARO Award to introduce the selected artists. Also, the exhibition to introduce the Award winners was held concurrently with the TARO Award exhibition in the past. Presently, this exhibition for the Award winners is held as the “The Artists of the TARO Award” exhibitions series. Following in the footsteps of Taro Okamoto, we would like to support new talents and provide them with opportunities to exhibit their works.

The Artists of the TARO Award II introduces the present art activities conducted by five award winners from the 6th to 12th TARO Award; Shinji OHMAKI (Special Prize in the 6th Award), Satoru TAMURA (selected in the 8th and Special Prize in the 12th Award), Hisashi TENMYOUYA (Excellence Prize in the 6th Award), Takehito FUJII (selected in the 7th and Second-place Grand Prize in the 8th Award), and Yukihiro YAMAGAMI (Special Prize in the 11th Award). We hope you will enjoy these award-winners’ aspiring works that search for the potentiality of new expression.
