As Japan is blessed with an abundance of forests, since ancient times trees have been an intimate part of people’s lives as materials for art and construction. From carvings to prints created by copying ink from carved boards onto paper, trees play a variety of roles in art. Evoking the cycles of nature, artworks created with trees assume the life force of nature, connecting with new forms of life. The mission of the wood-working artist is to find a concrete balance between the logic of nature and the creativity of human beings.
