Artists

Isamu Wakabayashi
Thirteen years on from his death, this exhibition looks back upon the career of Isamu Wakabayashi and amongst a collection of 270 works, documents and photographs, shines new light upon works such as his “Garden” series. While Wakabayashi made the territory of sculpture his own he also worked across drawing, printing, object-making and even writing. Through his practice we may observe an attempt to take on the insubstantial materials of air, water, plants, light and time and meld them into a sculptural form. The title of the exhibition “Flying Leaves and Oscillation” also reflects this relation through the artist’s own words in giving visualization to the movement of space.
