Artists

Mika Ninagawa
The name Mika Ninagawa will remind many people of series such as “Acid Bloom”, “Liquid Dreams” or “Flower Addict”, in which flowers and goldfish or popular idols and models are photographed in vivid and strongly impressive colors. Known as “Ninagawa Color”, these hues embrace an atmosphere that is bright, free and candid. However, her eyes are also drawn to the shadows, to almost the same extent as this vivid light. In “Noir,” Ninagawa captures the inseparability of life and death as two sides of the same coin, while in “Plant a Tree” she gives her whole attention to capturing the cherry blossoms that scatter in the Meguro River. Laying before us a rich black color and darkness in her photographs, she remarks “within black brims color; within color hides black.”
