”Clocks and other Problems” consists of multiple sculptures - mobiles, clocks and one more purely sculptural arrangement - each of which is related via an embodiment of the artist’s concerns with balance and time. Built from found pieces of wood from Rogan’s past and present home, as well as other less directly personal found objects such as a Civil War era domino, the abstract clocks and suspended mobiles in the exhibition suggest precariousness; the semi-abstract forms populating the show, painted in black and white are at once broken remnants and purposeful parts of a newly created sculpture. The exhibition includes one new work from Rogan’s “Mediums” series; a sculptural collage of black painted wood and photographs of forgotten artists salvaged from books to be discarded from the library of the San Francisco Art Institute.
