Tadao Ando, Arata Isozaki, Osamu Ishiyama, Frank Lloyd Wright, Le Corbusier et al.
In Japan, an architect is usually considered an ‘engineer’ who plans the construction of buildings. However, if we speak of the most outstanding architects, we imagine them as ‘artists’ who design the spaces we live in. We admire these architects for their ability to invent these splendid spaces that provide stimulus for the mind when we enter them, or, in some cases, that excite the imagination even if the building was never actually been built or does not exist anymore. Numerous painters of the Renaissance, for instance Leonardo da Vinci or Michelangelo, also were active as architects; images and architecture in turn became intrinsically interwoven. On the other hand, it is not surprising that throughout history many architects ardently created drawings and prints as well. In this exhibition, Toki-no-Wasuremono presents 14 drawings by the architects Tadao Ando, Arata Isozaki, Osamu Ishiyama, Yusuke Koshima, Frank Lloyd Wright, Le Corbusier, Antonin Raymond, and Michael Graves.
