Artists

Masayuki Nagare
Nanzuka presents its first solo show for Masayuki Nagare, a legendary sculptor known as the “Samurai Artist.” Nagare was perhaps the first successful Japanese artist on the American art scene after World War II. As a reintroduction to this singular artist’s sculptures, this exhibition presents major works including “Nagare Bachi,” referencing the propellers of Zero Fighter aircraft and shamisen stringed instruments, “Sakimori,” created in the image of a guardian diety, “Pikari,” inspired by a goddess whose name means “beautiful” in the Ainu language, and “Cloud Citadel,” a miniature.
