These paintings by Rie Kawabe feature Arisuke, a warrior girl and ally of righteousness who appeared in the artist’s dreams. Arisuke seems like an anime heroine, but also has a powerfully real presence. Rich in details and vivid in color, these unique works depart from the conventions of both bijinga and anime art.
