Rimpa is a distinctive style of Japanese Art that arose in the early Edo period. It has captured many admirers around the world with its elegance, sophisticated style and originality. This special exhibition features many precious works of Rimpa from the exclusive Hosomi Collection, one of the most highly acclaimed private collections in Kyoto and well known for this genre. This exhibit highlights the style of the Rimpa School through the art of more than twenty acclaimed Rimpa painters and observes the development of the Rimpa aesthetic. The show will display hanging scrolls, folding screens, fans and ceramics decorated with subjects featuring beauties of nature such as flowers, birds, landscapes, and yamato-e from the Heian period traditions.
