Uchima Ansei
Uchima Ansei(1921-2000) was a leading print maker working across Japan and the USA. Born in America he came to study architecture in Japan just before the war, and after returning to the US and taking up a position as a lecturer at a university, he also came to further deepen a traditional technique used in ukiyoe. Combining traditional techniques with highly contemporary forms, he received critical acclaim in New York and had much of his work acquired by major museums across the county. Here 20 examples of his print works are offered up in this solo exhibition.
