Koji Takeda
Polaroid image transfers, woven from a life of travel throughout Asia and Africa. A collection of photographs created from torn off Polaroids, transferred by special technique onto paper with a handmade touch. No two of these works by Takeda are the same, and this winter they come to Emon. Among them, may you find one to become part of your own journey. Although created with surefooted technique, most apparent in Takeda’s photographs are their tenderness. Children, with their charmingly infantile gestures and fleeting expressions, embody an unnameable nostalgia; gently, gracefully accepting the gaze of the viewer. These photographs are without any trace of artificiality. They do not rely on technique for their power, but are born from the artists’s very own life. The colour and texture of each of these photographs is totally unique. If I were to recommend a way in which one might view them, it would be together with someone special. For anyone wishing to begin collecting, these are photographs that EMON can recommend with confidence. This exhibition consists of 45 pieces created between 1995~2007, including previously unreleased photographs.
