Documentary Film Screening “Japan Rediscovered – Miyazaki Prefecture”
This event has ended.
Miyazaki’s mountain ranges are the cradle of one of the major episodes in Japanese mythology: the descent to earth of goddess Amaterasu’s grandson. In the 1950s, Miyazaki Prefecture was torn between contradictory movements: while traditional farmers led a humble life rooted in the traditions of the mystical mountains surrounding them, on the other hand, areas where intensive agriculture and industry had chaotically developed in the name of modernization were in a slump. The present screening will focus on both aspects, through contrastive documentary films.
