Documentary Film Screening “Japan Rediscovered” – Shiga Prefecture

Intermediatheque
Finished
Surrounding Lake Biwa, Shiga Prefecture has prospered since the Middle Ages as a major axis linking Kyoto to the Kanto region. However, after the war, with the development of transportation and industrialization, it was facing the risk of becoming a mere transit route. These documentary films, shot during that period of transition and capturing the traditional lifestyles and social system of Shiga’s farming and fishing villages, are now precious records of Japanese farmers’ way of living after the war.
