The Hibiya Library Museum
Finished

Artists

Pierre-Joseph Redouté
Pierre-Joseph Redouté was an official court artist for Marie Antoinette and Napoleon during the time of the French Revolution. His pointillist prints made with multi-colored copperplate engraving techniques are not only elaborately and subtly elegant, they are created with a scientific precision that makes them valuable in the field of botany as well as art. Among all of Redouté’s works, his print series “Choix des plus belles fleurs” (Selection of the Most Beautiful Flowers), created for flower enthusiasts, is one of the most loved around the world and also popular in Japan for its colorful flowers, gorgeous bouquets, and fresh fruits. This two-part exhibition introduces the beautiful world of flowers from “Choix des plus belles fleurs” with a total of 144 works including autographed prints and other documents.
