This event has ended.

Taichi Nakamura’s landscape paintings are dominated by suburban scenery. These superficially serene and obscure tableaus include strange standing figures, a factory resembling a nuclear power plant, secretive chemical movements and eerie smoke, and building debris. These pieces reflect the artist’s strong interest in the destruction of the natural environment and developments potentially unfolding somewhere in the world, that are imaginary yet have the flavor of detailed reportage.

Although unsettling, with Nakamura’s poetic sense of color these scenes evoke a slight daydream-like nostalgia, inviting the viewer on a virtual journey. Nakamura’s first solo show in four years focuses on drawings and paintings suggestive of preludes to stories, as well as works from the “Formula and Icon” series he is currently at work on.
