Most of these photographs by Tatsuya Shimohira are new works, many taken over the past four years since his move from Kanto to the city of Ise in Mie Prefecture. The land and scenery in them present a kind of revelation, evoking a sense of communion with and awe for nature that approaches faith. This new series displays an approach to landscape photography not often apparent in Shimohara’s previous works— he seems to be discovering a festival-like sacredness within the land.
