Artists

Kishio Suga
Kishio Suga (b. 1944) graduated from Tama Art University in 1968. Consistently producing work of remarkable originality since his student days, Suga is recognized as the leading artist of the “Mono-ha” movement that flourished in the 1970s and has recently been reexamined and recognized internationally. By careful placement of mono (things) such as stones, wood, and other natural and architectural materials, Suga’s work possesses the unique ability to activate the space itself. Through his creative interventions Suga visualizes the inherent power of unprocessed objects, their structures and origins, and their rich idiosyncrasies. Suga’s explorations of what it is to see things and how to perceive existence are fundamental yet fresh now in the exuberance of contemporary visual culture. This exhibition will mainly feature Suga’s new work, in which the objects possess a scintillating vibrancy.
