Akinori Matsumoto “Sound Scenes Hakone”

Hakone Open Air Museum
Finished

Artists

Akinori Matsumoto
Akinori Matsumoto is an artist who creates sound objects predominantly out of bamboo pieces. He applies a kinetic feature to those sound objects through the use of air movement as well as small motors. Natural and amusing musical sounds are generated through the sequence of sounds that are created by the bamboo pieces that bump and scrape against one another. While in one of his installations, a variety of objects that are projected on a huge screen give rise to graceful and soothing scenes woven out of sounds and images. This exhibition is composed of three installations: Sound Forest, Sound Garden and Sound Theater, opening up a singular world in which a myriad of shifting sounds and lights unfold throughout the exhibition space.
